In the small town of Treuenbrietzen in Potsdam-Mittelmark, the mayoral election was decided today and a new face was elected to the top of the city administration. Robert-Walter Wildgrube impressively emerged as the election winner by winning a whopping 56.9 percent of the votes in the first round. This enabled him to gain the full support of voters without the need for a runoff election. Anja Schmollack from the CDU came clearly in second place, receiving 17.3 percent of the votes. Behind him is Mike Fetzer from the 'Alliance City and Villages' initiative with 15.9 percent, while Stefan Schwabel for the AfD was only able to get 9.8 percent of the vote. Around 6,360 citizens were eligible to vote in the election, with a pleasing voter turnout of 68.0 percent registered - which was even higher than the 66.9 percent turnout for the 2024 local elections Maz Online.
An end of an era
Wildgrube will succeed Michael Knape, who has been in office since 2002 and is not running for a fourth term. Knape's term of service ends on January 3, 2026. The mayoral election was originally supposed to be held parallel to the federal election, but was brought forward after the traffic light coalition broke up. After his election, Wildgrube warmly thanked the voters and his team and expressed optimism for the coming period.
