Potsdam presents: New digital recycling center revolutionizes delivery!
Something is happening at the Potsdam-Drewitz recycling center! From now on, waste disposal companies can conveniently and flexibly use the new self-service launched by Stadtentsorgung Potsdam (STEP). This digital expansion, which is also available outside of regular opening hours, relies on the advantages of digitalization, as Potsdam's councilor Brigitte Meier emphasizes. Overall, a step into the future that makes disposing of recyclables even easier.
The recycling center has not only changed structurally, but has also been equipped with the latest technology. step managing director Dr. Burkhardt Greiff explains that the new self-service offers offer users a flexible usage time of six days a week - a total of three hours more than before. This means that citizens can now conveniently drop off their recyclables every day of the week and after work.
Easy access via app
In order to use the new service, a free user account is required in the MAEX app, which can be downloaded from both the App Store and the Google Play Store. Registration is quick and easy: After downloading the app, the user simply has to tap “Register”, confirm the data protection declaration, enter their email address and enter a confirmation code. You get access in no time.
The operation is uncomplicated, because when booking an appointment you simply select the type of waste, the quantity, the date and the time slot. Access to the recycling center is then via Bluetooth, with the gate opening automatically. This means the entire process is handled easily and almost contactlessly.
What can be thrown away?
Bulky waste up to 1 m³ as well as light packaging, paper, cardboard, cardboard boxes, scrap metal and used glass can be handed in free of charge in self-service. Green and garden waste costs 3.93 euros per 100 liters, which can also be easily paid via the app via PayPal or credit card. This means that nothing stands in the way of problem-free and quick disposal.
An important note: Harmful substances such as paint, used oil and car batteries are excluded from self-service and require assessment by specialist personnel, which is why these waste cannot be handed in via the digital solution.
The new self-service acceptance times are Monday to Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. However, the recycling center remains closed on Sundays and at night, which limits planning somewhat.
Ultimately, this digital step could provide relief for many citizens who often encountered challenges with traditional waste disposal. Big praise to the Potsdam municipal waste disposal company for this future-oriented solution!
