Postal voting office opened in Potsdam: How to cast your vote!
Something is happening in Potsdam - it opens today, September 2nd, 2025 Postal voting office for the upcoming mayoral election. You heard right! From now on, citizens eligible to vote can hand in their completed postal voting documents directly to the administration campus at Hegelallee 6-10.
Whether you want to take your postal voting documents with you or vote in person is entirely up to the citizens. The only important thing is that you don't forget your ID card or passport - ideally you should also bring the voting notification with you. Postal voting documents are not only available on site, but can also be conveniently dropped into any regular mailbox. The city administration's particularly practical mailboxes are available at Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 79-81, Hegelallee 6 and Edisonallee 7, which will be emptied at 6 p.m. on election day.
The election and its candidates
The people of Potsdam are about to elect a new mayor - because Mike Schubert's early end in office makes this step necessary. On September 21, 2025, the time has finally come: six men and one woman will fight for the vote of the approximately 143,000 Potsdam residents eligible to vote. The election notifications, which contain all important information such as polling station and personal details, were sent out from August 12, 2025.
There are several options for applying for postal voting documents: conveniently using the QR code on the election notification, by email to briefwahl@rathaus.potsdam.de or by fax. Since September 1st, you have been able to apply for your documents in person at the postal voting office - but please do not telephone, as that is not possible.
And what if there is a runoff election?
If no candidate achieves an absolute majority in the main election, there will be a runoff election on October 12, 2025 between the two candidates with the most votes. A good reason to keep the election notifications in a safe place so as not to lose any important information. Anyone who has not received an election notification by August 31, 2025 at the latest should definitely contact the election office.

A legal set of rules, which also applies to the upcoming elections in Potsdam, ensures that everything is in order.
