FDP supports Severin Fischer: Departure in Potsdam's town hall!

The political waves are hitting high in Potsdam! The FDP has expressed its support for the SPD candidate Severin Fischer in the upcoming mayoral election. This was officially confirmed by Björn Teuteberg, the parliamentary group leader of the Potsdam FDP. Originally reported Daily Mirror about this decision, which emerged from a unanimous decision by the district executive committee of the FDP after a round of introductions.

Severin Fischer, currently State Secretary in the Berlin Economic Administration, has experience in managing larger administrations, which convinced the FDP parliamentary group. This is particularly impressive when you consider that Fischer also holds out the prospect of a deviation from the previous line of the Potsdam SPD with regard to reducing trade tax. With this position, Fischer is targeting high chances for a possible second round of elections - especially because the FDP is currently represented by two members in the city parliament.

Who else is competing?

The mayoral election will take place on September 21st and there are a total of seven candidates, including Noosha Aubel (independent candidate) and Clemens Viehrig from the CDU. A possible runoff election is scheduled for October 12th. The district executive committee of the FDP had already decided in July not to put forward its own candidate and is now relying on Fischer to jointly advance city politics with a breath of fresh air.

Fischer’s vision for Potsdam

On his own website, Severin Fischer made it clear what drives him: “A modern city needs a service-oriented, efficient and digital administration.” He wants to take this core task seriously and be measured by it. One of its goals is to make all administrative services available digitally, while not allowing analogue offerings to fall by the wayside.

The first steps towards digitalization have already been initiated to enable applications and administrative procedures to be completed online. “We want to noticeably relieve the burden on the citizen service and the motor vehicle department,” says Fischer. Another focus is reducing processing times and ensuring on-site appointments are available at short notice. All of this is done with the aim of improving the working conditions for employees in Potsdam and creating a culture of appreciation and team spirit.

Fischer hopes for motivated employees who will actively participate in shaping the future of the city. One concern here is that the administration is perceived as a partner for citizens and companies. A togetherness that promotes joy in work and collaboration with the city.

With the upcoming elections and the support of the FDP behind Severin Fischer, it will be exciting to see how the political course in Potsdam will develop. The election campaign definitely promises to be an event that will keep both party supporters and Potsdam citizens on their toes.
