Intercultural weeks in Potsdam: Experience and celebrate diversity!

The start of the Intercultural Weeks in Potsdam is just around the corner and promises to be colorful and lively. Under the motto “for!” The people of Potsdam will be celebrating a unique event from September 5th, 2025. Over 30 events are planned that will promote the encounter between cultures, diversity and social cohesion. Dr. Amanda Palenberg, Commissioner for Migration and Integration, emphasizes how important cultural exchange is in our dynamic society. How much we can learn from each other and how much we all benefit from it is also reflected in the varied program, which ranges from concerts to workshops and exhibitions.

The highlights include the “HeimatArt” exhibition, which opens on September 5th in the St. Nikolai Church. Here, 20 artists with a history of migration will present their works until September 28th. Entry is free, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy this creative offering. Those interested in culture should not miss the Ukrainian Culture Days, which will take place on September 20th and 21st in the Old Printing House. Literature, music, theater and traditional specialties are on the program here - all without entry costs.

Variety of events

The Intercultural Street Art Festival from September 26th to 28th at the Schlaatz Community Center will be a highlight for families and people with refugee or migration experiences. Here you can experience art and become active yourself. The street soccer tournament “Kicking for Diversity” is also on the agenda on September 26th, where fairness, respect and cohesion are the focus. Another big event is the open sports festival for everyone, which will take place on September 27th in the Am Schlaatz district and will offer many hands-on stations and games.

The Intercultural Weeks in Potsdam have a long tradition, as the city has been taking part in them since 1991. The awards ceremony for the Integration Prize on September 21st in the Hans Otto Theater will be particularly exciting, a further step towards honoring commitment to the migration society. The full program is online www.potsdam.de/interkultur-woche to find.

Additional events in the region

The Intercultural Weeks are not just limited to Potsdam. There will also be numerous events in neighboring regions that promote intercultural exchange. For example, an international brunch for women with a migration background will take place on September 16, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the café in the Amadeu-Antonio-Haus in Eberswalde. And on September 19th there will be a music workshop in Wandlitz where young talents can show off their skills and make music together.

You can participate as a visitor or actively, like in the “Mobility for Integration” project, which will make bikes fit for and with refugees on September 17th. These activities show that integration concerns everyone and offers many facets to learn from each other and ultimately grow together.

If you would like to find out more about the regional offerings, you can find information at www.barnim.de, where a wealth of events are listed.

Overall, it is clear: the Intercultural Weeks 2025 will be a celebration of diversity that has a lot to offer.
