Krampnitz: New city district celebrates the opening and Finnish partnership!

Krampnitz, Potsdam, Deutschland - in Potsdam there was an exciting ceremony on June 22, 2025: the ceremonial unveiling of street signs in the new Stadtquartier Krampnitz. This event emphasizes the decades of city partnership between the city of Potsdam and the Republic of Finland. Mayor Burkhard Exner and the Finnish ambassador Kai Sauer were present at the ceremony. The street names, such as the Finnish Allee and the Tove-Jansson-Weg, are not only a tribute to the important relationship, but also to the Finnish author Tove Jansson, who inspired generations with her Mumin stories.

The new building district Krampnitz extends over a proud 140 hectares and will offer living space for around 10,000 people, including around 4,900 apartments. In addition to the living space, daycare centers, schools and up to 3,000 jobs are also planned, which will significantly increase the quality of life in this emerging neighborhood. The planned Jyväskyläppark is intended to further consolidate the connection to the twin city. In his speech, Ambassador Sauer emphasized the relevance of education and social security in this new district, which is awarded by an innovative and sustainable mobility concept.

sustainability in focus

Not only the partnership and future life in Krampnitz are the focus of the planning, but also sustainable urban development. This approach is crucial to counteract rapidly rapid urbanization. Current statistics show that over 50 % of the world's population already live in cities, and this trend is expected to continue to increase by 2050. The global challenges, such as excessive traffic, air pollution and expensive living space, can be addressed through sustainable urban development. Among other things, the creation of green areas and the improvement of building insulation are on the agenda. The concept in Krampnitz thus fits the goal of securing a high quality of life for future generations - also in the sense of the measures that already serve as the guidelines of the German Ministry of Development

With a planned CO₂-neutral energy supply through geothermal energy and photovoltaics, Krampnitz sets standards in environmentally friendly urban development. By the end of 2025, the first 186 apartments are to be completed in listed buildings. A mixed apartment mix is offered, which includes both funded units and condominiums. The development extends over several years, with the aim of not only creating living space, but also attractive jobs.

A look into the future

Overall, a new habitat will be created in Krampnitz, which is rounded off by social institutions such as a community center, libraries and leisure activities. The always mentioned vision of the car -poor district with a good connection to the tram and bus shows that climate -friendly mobility is very important here. The plans testify that cycles are to be closed and urban areas are to be revitalized sustainably. This not only makes Krampnitz a place of residence, but also promotes its own identity that combines the traditions of the city with modern starting points.

The way to the future is paved in Krampnitz and promises exciting developments in the field of urban development. This project could serve as a model for other cities that successfully mastered challenges through urbanization, climate change and resource consumption. The initiatives in Krampnitz could achieve great effects through small changes when it comes to planning and building sustainably and socially appropriate.
