Northeast German championships: Potsdam shines in gymnastics!

The northeast German championships of girls took place in Potsdam on Saturday. This sporting highlight attracted 79 talented gymnasts from 9 different clubs, including SC Potsdam, KTZ Potsdam and the Berlin gymnastics. The event was prepared and secured with a lot of commitment by the support association of the gymnastics talent school "Luftschiffhafhafen" Potsdam, which apparently influenced the atmosphere very positively.

The university gymnasium near the airship port was the place where the audience could watch exciting competitions in the age groups AK 7, AK 8 and AK 9. The SCP gymnasts were particularly successful and were able to fight for several medals. Malia Sawyerr took an excellent second place in the AK 7 and was even the best of her age group at the jump. Francesca Gherasudis also stood out in AK 9 and not only secured second place in the overall ranking, but also shone on the ground as the winner.

The individual performance on the devices was particularly impressive, where Malia Sawyerr, for example, won first place on the jump and took second place on the bar.

The highlights of the event

Another highlight of the day was Kathleen Friedrich, the President of SC Potsdam. She did not miss the opportunity to demonstrate her skills at the bar. Kathleen Friedrich has had an impressive career: she started as a gymnast before moving to athletics. Their commitment to gymnastics and their presence at this event are a sign of the connection between the club management with the active athletes who offer broad space for gymnastics in Germany.

The Hanseturnverein Rostock was recognized as the most successful gymnastics team of the day by winning seven titles. In addition, the TTS/SC Potsdam and SC Berlin together play four championship titles. This clearly shows the competitiveness and the high standard that prevails in the region. The events of this kind contribute to strengthening gymnastics in Germany, a sport that was shaped by Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, the "father of gymnastics" in the 19th century and has since developed into an important sports movement. According to gymnastics100.de, gymnastics today has over five million members in German clubs.

Overall, the Northeast German Championships offered a successful event that inspired both the participants and the audience and underlined the importance of gymnastics in the German sports landscape.
