SC Potsdam surprises with Micoli as coach after Kapris cancellation!
The SC Potsdam volleyball players are facing a new chapter. Vladimir Kapris was actually supposed to take over as coach, but the former coach of Fenerbahce Istanbul canceled before starting work and decided to accept an offer from VakifBank Istanbul. There he will be assistant coach to Giovanni Guidetti. SCP managing director Eugen Benzel shows understanding for this decision and emphasizes that such an opportunity for Kapris is rare, as rbb-online.de reports.
But SC Potsdam has already reacted quickly and hired a new head coach, Stefano Micoli. Micoli brings with him impressive experience from his time in Italy, Turkey, Romania, Slovakia, Israel and Poland, where he served as both head and assistant coach. He was also part of teams that won the Champions League and won numerous national titles. The 57-year-old succeeds Riccardo Boieri, who moved to Croatia. Micoli receives a contract until 2027 with an option for a further year, which gives the club long-term planning security. Benzel highlights Micoli's experience and ability to manage a squad turnover, which will be very beneficial for SC Potsdam in the coming season, reports [maz-online.de].
Start of training with new faces
With the new coach, SC Potsdam's training will also begin. The training-free period is over and the first players have been back on site since last week. Medical checks were carried out successfully and ball training began on Monday. Micoli emphasizes the importance of touches and contact over the next two weeks to promote team chemistry and improve athleticism.
Seven players from the first division squad were present in the first session. This also includes Jenna Ewert, who immediately drew attention with a hit. New additions, like Anna Koulberg, are expected soon. Koulberg is currently still with the Belgian national team. The team will train at the MBS Arena starting next week, while jumping will also be integrated into training.
Looking forward to the season
The first test match against BBSC Berlin is scheduled for August, and the first competitive games begin at the beginning of October. SC Potsdam will play away three times next season: twice in the Volleyball Bundesliga and once in the European Cup. There will also be a premiere in the second leg against VKP Bratislava, which will take place on October 16th in the CEV Challenge Cup. This will be followed by further exciting home games against VfB Suhl LOTTO Thüringen and SSC Palmberg Schwerin.
In these turbulent times, SC Potsdam is not only facing a change of coach, but also the challenge of forming a new team with the aim of showing strong performances in the coming season. So it remains exciting to see how the team will develop under the leadership of Stefano Micoli. The coming season promises a lot of excitement for the fans in Potsdam.
