Turbine Potsdam: Girls' soccer teams shine in tournaments and championships!
Last Saturday, June 14th, 2025, a great girls' tournament took place at Ludwigsfelder FC, in which the F-juniors of 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam also took part with a lot of enthusiasm and joy. In bright sunshine and midsummer temperatures, the tournament started on the lowest pitch, but the little footballers from Potsdam were not deterred and fought their way up to the top field.
In their games, the girls showed a pleasing development from individual one-on-one duels to a team-friendly passing game. They always recognized free spaces and made clever use of them. Their secure possession game posed great challenges to their opponents, who often could only run after them. Another positive aspect is the implementation of quick moves when dribbling in and corners. However, there is one area that could still be improved: positional play in pressure situations.
Tournament history and successes
The F-Junior team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and showed clear dominance, which was also reflected in some great goals. The courage to finish increased over the course of the tournament, which is positive for the players' further development. Particularly noteworthy are the outstanding performances of Frieda and Florian, who ensured that the young talents did not overheat in the heat.
On the other hand, the B2 junior team from 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam competed in the semi-finals of the state championship. After an impressive first leg with 9:0 against SG Schwanebeck, they also clearly triumphed in the second leg with 8:2. The team dominated in the first half in particular with a 5-0 lead at the break, although their concentration waned in the second half, which led to two goals conceded for the Schwanebeck team. Nevertheless, the Potsdam girls contributed three more goals to the final score of 8:2, which touched coach Tim Meyer emotionally. He praised both the team and the accompanying fans and is looking forward to the upcoming championship final, for which intensive preparations are underway.
A rare football express
In this context, it should be mentioned that exciting moments also took place in children's football in the region. On the last day of the holidays, the first second half tournament in Havelland children's football was held in the state capital. Here two teams of E-girls and F-girls competed against each other. It was the first tournament for many players and they did really well. After a warm-up, a 1v1 tournament format was tried out before moving on to the four games of the tournament proper. This brought the young women some individually pleasing moments and results that further strengthened the team dynamic.
A real highlight was wearing the 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam jerseys at the game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, where the players acted as walk-in children and ball girls. These exciting experiences must have been unforgettable for the young footballers.
Women's football in transition
The enthusiasm for women's football is not only reflected in regional tournaments, but has also increased significantly at international level. The Women's UEFA EURO is currently taking place in England, while the best players from the CONCACAF zone are in Mexico fighting for a place at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Despite the positive development, there are still numerous challenges, as the report from FIFA makes clear. Over the last decade, FIFA has launched various programs to support women's football worldwide.
A particularly ambitious goal is to increase the number of girls and women playing football to 60 million by 2026. These initiatives to promote women's football show that the landscape is constantly changing and the sport is becoming increasingly important. “Beyond Greatness” – this slogan sums up the ambition and ambition that women bring to football.
