Road safety for everyone: Big event in Potsdam on June 21st!
The senior citizens' advisory board of the state capital Potsdam is showing a good hand when it organizes a very special event on road safety on Friday, June 21, 2025. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., all generations can come to the traffic training area in Pirschheide to find out about various aspects of mobility and to actively participate. Whether school children, seniors, cyclists or pedestrians – road safety is a top priority for everyone here. Potsdam.de reports that the event is taking place in collaboration with the Verkehrswacht Potsdam e.V. and other partners.
The program is impressive and offers a colorful mix of information stands and hands-on activities. The police will be on site with their modern speed cameras, while the public order office will provide helpful insights into turning assistance systems. Visitors also have the opportunity to have their bicycles checked during an ADAC safety check. Special highlights also include the reaction and vision tests, walking courses for people with limited mobility and the opportunity to try out e-bikes. To ensure that the safety of the bicycles is not neglected, there will also be the option of coding to prevent theft.
Mobility for everyone
The event can also be easily combined with the current demographic developments in mobility. According to that TÜV association Road traffic conditions have changed significantly in recent years. In 2023, 25% of drivers were 65 years or older. This means that many older people are taking part in traffic more actively than they were just a few years ago. They are more cautious in their driving style, which results in them causing fewer accidents than younger age groups.
The focus on the needs of older road users is now more important than ever. From the age of 75, performance declines, but the safety of older people can be improved with intelligent transport systems and infrastructure adjustments. Clearly readable signs and illuminated pedestrian crossings are just some of the measures needed to make road traffic safer for all generations.
A day full of activities
The event is also actively supported by various supporters. The police, Potsdam fire department and the public order office are ready to contribute their expertise. Local public transport, represented by ViP Verkehrsbetrieb, will also make a contribution. The Kniesche medical supply store will be responsible for the physical well-being, while numerous volunteers will work hand in hand to make this day a complete success.
Best of all, entry to the event is free and registration is not required. Come by and take a step towards safe mobility for all age groups together with us. With so many interactive offers and information, this day is guaranteed to be a boost for your road safety awareness!
