On August 13th the time had finally come: Gerhard Jaenicke from Ruhner Berge celebrated his 100th birthday! A festive banner with the inscription “Gerhard turns 100” hung at the farm gate and welcomed numerous guests, including children, grandchildren, companions and friends. Mayor Hans-Jürgen Buchholz conveyed his congratulations and brought a magnificent bouquet of flowers to appropriately mark this special day.
Gerhard has lived in his parents' house since he was born, which is currently being renovated. He keeps chickens and pigeons on his extensive property of 1000 square meters. Unfortunately he cannot work in the garden at the moment due to an accident, but he is optimistic and hopes to be able to be active again soon. As a former trainer, he released around a thousand apprentices into the professional world at the district company for agricultural technology (KFL). The secret of his long life? Gerhard emphasizes the importance of staying active and not sitting down too much.
Healthy life and festive celebration
With a smile, he reveals that a sensible lifestyle is crucial. “No smoking, little alcohol and lots of fresh air” is the motto. In the evenings, the sprightly centenarian treats himself to half a beer and a little schnapps before going to bed - and that apparently contributes to his fitness!
