Elli Meinhardt turns 90: A new chapter in her life in Perleberg!

What a beautiful occasion to celebrate! Elli Meinhardt, who was born on October 28, 1935 in the Finkenau women's clinic in Hamburg, celebrated her 90th birthday on Tuesday. The clinic, which no longer exists today, was replaced by a media campus. Elli has lived in the quiet district of Gramzow in Perleberg since December 16, 2023. Her daughter and son-in-law are just a stone's throw away, which strengthens the family bond.

The move from lively Hamburg to rural Perleberg represents a fresh chapter in life for the celebrant. While the city of König looks forward to the warm welcome of its new residents, Mayor Axel Schmidt conveyed the city's congratulations and paid tribute to Elli Meinhardt's eventful life.

Life path of a strong woman

Elli grew up in a family that had humble roots in Hamburg: her father worked in a shipyard while her mother cleaned office buildings. During the Second World War the family lived temporarily in the countryside after being evacuated from Hamburg. After school, Elli learned to sew at Peek & Cloppenburg and found her place in this profession for many years.

After marrying her husband, they started an adventure together: for 18 years they ran a snack bar in the Billstedt district of Hamburg, which they opened in 1969 after the birth of their daughter. But her husband's illness finally made her decide to give up the snack bar. Together they have three children – two sons and a daughter – and nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A new home, a new happiness

The move to Gramzow not only means a change of scenery, but also a new start for the agile 90-year-olds. In this new environment she enjoys the peace and quiet and the opportunity to spend time with her family. The decision to leave city life behind was a big step - definitely a good deal for the family, who are now experiencing the benefits of rural life.

This life story of Elli Meinhardt shows that age is really just a number. With her family around her and a charming new place to live, she enjoys every day to the fullest.
