Run for peace and tolerance: Wittenberge runs for a good cause!
Today, June 20, 2025, the topic of peace is high on the agenda in Wittenberge. The “Run for Peace and Tolerance” starts here at 10 a.m. in Clara Zetkin Park. With over 850 registered participants, the event will be a real spectacle. The 12-hour run doesn't end until 10 p.m. and even those who decide to do so at short notice can take part, as co-organizer Annette Hensler encourages everyone. At the same time, a happy family festival will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with hands-on activities for young and old, delicious food and refreshing drinks awaiting visitors. This is more than just a run; it is a sign of a peaceful society.
But it's not just the run that's causing a stir in the region. A new exhibition archive will be opened in Wittenberge on June 28th at the town hall festival, for which the city has invested an impressive 245,000 euros in construction and equipment. Preparations for this are going well and it seems as if this could become the cultural highlight of the summer!
Cultural events and engagement
In addition to the big run, there are also other exciting events. For example, the reading summer for students in grades 3 to 5 starts on July 17th at the Pritzwalk City Library. A great opportunity for the boys and girls to improve their reading skills and even keep a logbook!
A look at Perleberg shows that the summer solstice is celebrated here. On the same day as the run, fashion shows, dances and concerts will bring the city to life. Pro Peace is active in the education sector, supporting schools in learning non-violent solutions. The project includes workshops that help students learn how to deal with conflict. In 2024, 151 workshops had already been successfully held, and the response from participants - both students and teachers - has been consistently positive. In connection with the Peace Days, plans for a Peace Run in Cologne in autumn 2024 are also on the agenda.
Changes in the parish office and other developments
Another important event in the region concerns Uwe Czubatynski, who will take over the parish service for the entire parish of Nine Churches Breddin and the surrounding area from July 1st. The native of Perleberg and studied theology has had an impressive career. After his ordination in 1990, he worked in various positions, most recently as archivist at the Brandenburg Cathedral Monastery. He now follows Petra Leukert, who has moved to Spandau.
While numerous events are planned in Perleberg, there is also an upswing in gastronomy, such as the new La Maison in Pritzwalk, which was taken over by Esteve and Karen Rodríguez-Guardo. This is complemented by creative events with Spanish and Colombian dishes – a real treat!
And there is also a lot on offer when it comes to sporting activities. On June 22nd, a guided bike tour to Plattenburg will start, which is part of a medieval spectacle.
Citizens in the region can look forward to numerous events and initiatives. The diversity shows how important commitment to peace and community is, and that there is always a lot to experience in the Prignitz!
