Festival of Lights in Semlin: Shine together for social coexistence!

In the small community of Semlin, the Festival of Lights is celebrated on November 8th, an event that aims to brighten people's hearts and bring social interaction to the fore. From 3 p.m., residents at Semliner Straße 7b and in the Rico Draber residential park will celebrate in a glittering sea of lights. The festival is organized by the “Historisches Stavenow” support association in collaboration with the BürgerBündnisKarstädt, the Lebenshilfe Prignitz residence and committed citizens.

The festival of lights has its roots in resistance to Shell's biogas plant approval, which was granted in 2021 and revoked in 2024. This dispute led to the founding of the Karstädt Citizens' Alliance and a strengthening of the sense of community among the citizens. Gerhard Kolrep, 75 years old and one of the oldest helpers in the construction, emphasizes how important social coexistence and cooperation within the community are. “We all pulled together, and the Festival of Lights is the best example of that,” he says.

A diverse program

The festival will not only feature impressive decorations consisting of Swedish fires, fire bowls, glass lanterns, fairy lights and lanterns. The program is also diverse and offers something for every age group. Culinary delicacies invite you to feast, while alpacas are available for special walks. Young visitors can also express their creativity by doing handicrafts and painting, enjoy carriage rides and pony rides and browse the numerous stalls.

A special concern of the organizers is to create a pre-Christmas festival of lights that brings people of all generations together - including those with disabilities or a migrant background. Supporting Lebenshilfe Prignitz ensures that everyone has the chance to celebrate together and strengthen social cohesion.

A celebration for the community

The previous events, such as the children's festival in summer 2024 and the Christmas festival in Stavenow, have already made an important contribution to promoting togetherness. Now everyone involved hopes that the Festival of Lights will be another highlight that will attract many visitors and create unforgettable moments.

“Everyone is warmly invited to join us and spend an unforgettable day together,” concluded Kolrep. On November 8th it’s finally time: “Turn on the lights and celebrate togetherness!”
