New royal couple in Boberow: tradition meets high-tech at the shooting festival!
On Sunday, new traditions and modern technology were combined in Boberow when the Eldena gunners ceremoniously honored the new royal couple with twelve cannon shots. Tino Leverenz, a 41-year-old system electronics engineer, and Pia Thurmann, an 18-year-old geriatric nurse, are the new representatives of the Boberow 1990 e.V. shooting club. For a year they will now wear the royal chain and the honorary title while they represent the club at various festivals.
The first mission of the new royal couple is already coming up: on July 26th, Leverenz and Thurmann will demonstrate their skills at the shooting festival in Porep near Putlitz. However, the path to the crown was not trivial. The old king decides on the new monarch based on a shooting tournament in which people shoot at a ring target. Tino Leverenz scored 29 points, which made him king, while all other applicants scored either 30 or more or 10 or fewer points. The club chairman Mathias Kuhrmann underlines the equality in the selection process and was happy about the new queen, who has only been in the club for a few months.
Modernization for the future
Tradition meets progress here: In recent years, the shooting club has brought its over 30-year-old shooting range into shape. In a move that excited the shooting enthusiasts, cameras were installed that broadcast the results live to tablets and a projector in the meeting room. Norman Vetter, computer scientist and hobby turkey breeder, has programmed an app that also displays the results and tables. The comprehensive modernization was financed exclusively through membership fees, so that the association remains debt-free.
Every Sunday morning the club members meet to exchange ideas and shoot. These regular meetings not only strengthen solidarity, but also enthusiasm for shooting sports. This is deeply rooted in Germany and is practiced by people of all ages and genders, regardless of their personal background. Shooting shows itself to be a living tradition that has adapted to social changes and is increasingly becoming the focus of events such as the Boberow Festival.
Celebrate in the spirit of tradition
The Boberow Festival, which took place from June 17th to 19th, 2022, celebrated the 32nd anniversary of the shooting club and the 122nd anniversary of the lakeside community. A diverse program awaited the visitors: from a celebratory service to carriage rides to the traditional royal shot by the old royal couple. From the proclamation of the new royal couple to performances by comedians and bands, the festive season offered a colorful mix of entertainment for young and old.
Shooting is characterized by local customs and rituals, and the parades and social celebrations make it a true cultural highlight in the region. These traditions are not only important for social life in the villages, but also promote community and togetherness.
However the shooting clubs develop, one thing remains certain: the combination of tradition and modern technology will continue to enrich and fascinate shooting - after all, Germany celebrates its shooters with pride and enthusiasm.
