Prignitz is looking for cycling friends: Take part in the big survey now!

As part of the insightful cycling trip analysis 2025, a comprehensive survey by the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC), cycling travel behavior in Germany is once again being examined. This important survey runs until December 8, 2023 and calls on cycling enthusiasts to share their experiences and needs. The date is crucial because the Prignitz Tourism Association encourages all cycling enthusiasts, regardless of their level of experience, to take part in this analysis. [Nordkurier] reports that the cycle travel analysis has been carried out for over 25 years and is now one of the largest surveys on cycle tourism in Germany.

The cycle trip analysis is more than just a survey; It provides information about popular cycling regions and routes, travel behavior, expenses, duration and the wishes of cyclists. One focus here is on the Elbe cycle path, which has been one of the most frequented routes for years and has established itself as a real favorite with the public. Jacqueline Fuhrmann, cycle path coordinator for the tourism association, underlines the immense importance of the survey for the perception of Prignitz as a cycle-friendly holiday region. “Cycling trips are not just a leisure activity, but have proven to be a strong economic factor,” says Fuhrmann.

Findings from the cycle trip analysis

Cycling trip analysis will be important for many stakeholders in tourism, including tourism organizations, municipalities and hosts. Since the analysis began in 1999, it has collected basic information about the cycling behavior of the German population. The survey helps to better understand the needs of cycling holidaymakers and to document their travel habits. The data collected includes, among others:

  • Soziodemographische Faktoren
  • Informationsverhalten vor und während der Radreise
  • Beliebteste Reiseziele
  • Tägliche Kilometerleistung
  • Gebuchte Unterkünfte

Central questions about travel behavior are asked continuously, while complementary questions are based on changing topics, for example in relation to the challenges during the corona pandemic. [ADFC] clarifies that the survey was conducted with the help of the market research institute T.I.P. Biehl & Partner and around 10,000 participants across Germany will be introduced to the survey via closed panels and open surveys.

Future prospects and significance of the survey

The results of this year's cycling trip analysis will be presented on March 6, 2024 at the ITB International Tourism Fair in Berlin. This year, over 16,000 participants aged 18 and over are expected to take part in the survey, which promises record participation. In addition, new segments of cycle tourism are being examined for the first time, which paint a larger and more differentiated picture of cycle travelers.

What is particularly interesting is the trend that 37.4 million people in Germany used their bikes on vacation and for excursions in 2023 - a significant increase in day trips, while the numbers for classic bike trips fell. This could indicate a shift in travel behavior, which the survey will further illustrate. The nationwide survey therefore offers valuable information that will be incorporated into future developments and may also influence tourism strategies in regions such as Brandenburg and Prignitz. [Mobility Forum] emphasizes that participation in the survey can be completed anonymously, free of charge and within about ten minutes.

Overall, it shows that cycle trip analysis is not only a platform for collecting cyclists' experiences, but also a crucial step in promoting cycling in Germany. If you would like to take part, you can find the link to the survey here: www.adfc.de/radreiseanalyse.
