Pritzwalk votes: Thiel triumphs despite falling voter turnout!

On September 28, 2025, Ronald Thiel, the independent mayor of Pritzwalk, clearly won the mayoral election in the first round. With 60.2% of the vote, he not only significantly exceeded the required 50%, but also expressed his delight at being re-elected for a second term. Despite the positive news, voter turnout was somewhat sobering at around 52.9%, especially compared to the last election in 2017, which recorded a turnout of 67%. How maz online reported, this could have had weather-related influences on voter turnout, confirmed election officer Jan Waldmann.

Frank Schröder from the Prignitz Reason and Justice citizens' alliance came in second with 13.6% of the vote. The experienced politician and chairman of the city council plans to actively promote the issues raised in the election campaign over the next eight years. He would particularly like to advocate for the assessment rates not to be increased. Mario Ortlieb from the Farmers and Rural Region achieved the third result with 13.1% and is aiming to create a large regional market to revitalize the city center, which was a concern for many voters in Pritzwalk. Individual applicant Claudia Riemann, who also came in fourth place with 13.1%, sees her result as a success, but notes that the city is not yet ready for fundamental changes.

The candidates' reactions

Ronald Thiel is optimistic in his second term while taking the responsibility seriously. “I am grateful for the trust and will do my best to move Pritzwalk forward,” he says. RBB highlights that the other candidates, even if they did not achieve their goals, also expressed their views and plans for the future.

The political landscape in Pritzwalk remains exciting, especially with regard to the issues that concerned voters - such as the revitalization of the city center and purchasing power. These issues are considered important not only to make the city more attractive, but also to make future development sustainable. Pritzwalk has thus set the course for the next few years and citizens can be excited to see how the implementation of the election promises develops.
