In Spremberg, a town in the Spree-Neiße district, almost 100 people demonstrated peacefully today against a meeting of the right-wing extremist small party “Third Way”. The protest was organized by the “Unteilbar Spremberg” alliance, and the participants showed their clear stance against neo-Nazis with posters such as “Diversity instead of simplicity” and “Stand up, look, stand in the way of Nazis”. Tagesschau reports, that only about 50 people were present at the “Third Way” meeting.
Alliance leader Bianca Broda expressed concern about the increasing attempts by neo-Nazis and fascists to exploit young people in particular for their own purposes. Spremberg's mayor Christine Herntier was also among the demonstrators and emphasized the need to show the flag against the growing influence of neo-Nazis in the city. The appeal to actively position oneself against right-wing tendencies and not to deal with the extremists' arguments was shared by many supporters. This incident shows beyond the city limits that the issue of right-wing extremism represents a challenge for society as a whole.
