Creative minds: Sixth graders create graffiti for their school birthday!

On July 19, 2025, the Heide Elementary School will be transformed into a colorful paradise to celebrate its 20th anniversary. As part of a special school project, the sixth grade students put their creative skills to the test and developed their own shortcuts, also known as “tags”. These were sprayed on a wooden wall under the professional guidance of two sprayers from the mountain castle, which was sponsored by the family business Gebrüder Noack. The sprayers also enhanced the artwork with the school's lettering and gave the children a great insight into the world of hip-hop.

The anticipation for the school birthday party is already palpable, as the graffiti wall will be the centerpiece of the celebrations. "The project is a unique opportunity to turn our creative ideas into reality. It feels great to see our own designs," says one student, visibly proud of the results. The enthusiasm for graffiti is also reflected in the consideration of students in class 8.4 at the Walter Gropius School to express themselves artistically with spray cans. This type of art in public spaces not only promotes creativity, but also the students' ability to plan, as shown by walter-gropius-schule-berlin.de.

Creativity with bunting

But it's not just the graffiti wall that's causing excitement at Heide Elementary School. All children at the school are also busy sewing pennants for a large bunting chain under the guidance of teachers and volunteers. This will decorate the school atmosphere during the celebrations and create a festive setting. “It's nice to see how everyone works together to create something special,” explains a teacher who is accompanying the project. Such community projects not only forge friendships, but also strengthen the sense of community at the school.

The importance of graffiti as an art form in public spaces is increasingly appreciated. According to graffitiartist.de, art is often perceived subconsciously, whether in the form of sculptures, monuments or street art. Graffiti as a form of expression allows students to give free rein to their creativity and express their personality visually. “Because of a project like this we can let off steam creatively and realize ourselves!” said one student about the positive effects of this art form.

Overall, it shows that projects like the graffiti project not only promote the students' artistic streak, but also make an important contribution to celebrating school culture. On July 19th, the Heide primary school will definitely set colorful accents and properly celebrate the successes of its students.
