The village of Bischdorf, with its around 200 inhabitants, is the scene of one of the very special events in the Spreewald: from August 1st to 3rd, 2025, the pond ride will be held for the 72nd time. After more than 70 years of tradition, this event will once again win the hearts of visitors. LR Online reports that the program has more to offer this year than ever before.
What can participants and spectators expect? First of all, a very special race: The participants overcome an obstacle bridge on classic 26 mm women's bikes without gears. This is a lot of fun and a lot of challenge, because falls are not excluded - but that's just part of it! The 20-year-old club chairman Fritz Heinze, who will also take part in the competition himself, has already prepared well.
A supporting program in a class of its own
The event not only offers exciting competitions, but also a range of festivities. Everything starts on Friday with an open training session for participants, followed by a legendary warm-up party from 6:30 p.m. All events informed that there will be a big party with live shows on two floors on Saturday evening. Around 1,000 visitors are expected here, and there are numerous artists like Justin Prince and Electrosalat at the start.
The highlight of the event is undoubtedly Sunday. It starts at 10 a.m. with a morning pint while the brass musicians ensure the best atmosphere. The pond ride begins at 2 p.m., which takes place as a bicycle pursuit race over the dreaded board course. After the competitions, participants and spectators can look forward to an after-show party with an award ceremony at 8 p.m.; the festivities end around 5 p.m.
Safety precautions and conditions of participation
Important for all participants: Helmets are mandatory, safety comes first! To take part in pond driving, participants must be at least 14 years old. Good preparation is essential as preparations for the event take around six weeks. And of course there is an extensive range of food and drinks to pamper visitors' palates.
