Mayoral election in Großbeeren: Candidates promise harmony despite disputes!
In Großbeeren, a tranquil town in the Teltow-Fläming district, the mayoral election is just around the corner. Today, June 18, 2025, a lively discussion took place between the five candidates in the MAZ Forum. Organized by the MAZ with Nadine Pensold and Oliver Fischer as moderators, around 130 guests were able to take part in the exciting exchange. The focus was primarily on harmonious coexistence, a contrast to the turbulent last seven years, which were marked by conflicts, especially between the former mayor Tobias Borstel and the community representatives [maz-online.de].
Tobias Borstel, who until recently was a non-party mayor, has tragically ended his term in office. He made the decision last Friday not to vote after a referendum on the deselection. “The end of my term in office was not easy, but it was the only right decision for my family and me,” said Borstel. Since his election in 2018, Borstel initially had great support in the community, but eventually lost the trust of his SPD parliamentary group and founded the “Our Großbeeren - Your Voice” parliamentary group (UGDS) before a deselection process was initiated, as [rbb24.de].
The candidates in detail
The concentrated diversity of candidates presented themselves in the MAZ forum. But despite the different parties, the points of view were often similar, especially when it came to coexistence in the community. Klaus Meyer from the UGDS highlighted his experience in bringing people together and dared to defend his age: “I feel young,” as he explicitly emphasized. Bettina Stobbe from the Greens relies on her “feminine skills” and wants to build bridges between the different factions.
Peter Silke from the AfD, with 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur, did not apologize for his party affiliation and rejected the term “AfD bashing”. He argues that this affiliation is irrelevant to the job of a mayor. Martin Wonneberger from the CDU, however, emphasized the importance of factual discussions and the need to avoid personal attacks. The desire to work together across factions sent a positive signal in the sometimes tense political situation, he emphasized.
Wishes and demands of the candidates
Forum visitors were pleased with the concrete proposals presented by the candidates. Christian Schäfer suggested the construction of a new hockey pitch, which met with general approval, while Stobbe insisted on the priority of the playgrounds. At the same time, Wonneberger warned of the decline of the club landscape without a multifunctional pitch. It seems the candidates have a lot planned.
The desire for a harmonious and fair election campaign hovers over the community. Daniel Krause, the chairman of the local council, expresses this wish clearly. With an expected election day on July 6th, followed by a possible runoff election on July 20th, the political waves in Großbeeren are higher than ever before.
