Digital building applications in Brandenburg: reducing bureaucracy made easy!
A lot is happening in the area of construction in Brandenburg: more and more cities and districts are relying on digital building applications in order to noticeably reduce administrative costs. This development was recently confirmed when the first six building inspectorates launched their virtual building authorities. The initiatives are already running in the districts of Oberspreewald-Lausitz, Märkisch-Oderland, Prignitz, Teltow-Fläming, Uckermark and the city of Schwedt Daily Mirror reported.
A central aspect of this redesign is the networking of everyone involved: builders, planners, authorities and communities can now communicate via a common platform. The goal? Drastically shorten processing times and reduce bureaucracy. According to Infrastructure Minister Detlef Tabbert, this digital process is increasingly being received positively, which is evidenced by the acceptance of users, which also includes the Oberspreewald-Lausitz building supervisory authority.
Efficient processes and new regulations
A key advantage of the virtual building authority is the digital data exchange, which not only changes the way building applications are submitted, but also significantly improves the entire process from the application to the building permit. This project was piloted on Wednesday in Calau, where Minister Rainer Genilke (CDU) personally presented the introduction of the digital building authority. The country plans to connect all 20 lower building inspection authorities to the platform by 2026 rbb24.
In addition to the positive development, those interested should note that some new regulations must be taken into account when submitting building applications. The number of file attachments is limited to a maximum of 100, and each file can be a maximum of 80 MB in size. In total, the documents submitted may not exceed 200 MB. It is particularly important that the files are in PDF format; other formats could result in the application not being submitted in its entirety. By the way, password-protected PDFs are a no-go. There are clear guidelines here, which are up to date on the website of the virtual building authority vba.brandenburg.de can be read.
A step into the digital future
The Oberspreewald-Lausitz building supervisory authority processes around 600 building applications every year. With full digitalization, it is estimated that around 250,000 sheets of paper can be saved. The step into the digital future could not only bring about more efficient processes, but also promote better environmental protection.
Brandenburg is not the only federal state that relies on digital building applications. Baden-Württemberg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have already established similar systems, but with the interlinking of all administrative processes, Brandenburg is becoming a pioneer in this area. Eliminating the need for printing, signing and sending by post could speed up the process enormously and reduce the burden on administration in the long term.
Overall, it shows that Brandenburg is taking a strong step into the future with the digital building authority, from which everyone involved can benefit. It remains to be seen whether the whole thing actually works and serves as a model for other federal states.
