Märkisch Wilmersdorf village church: renovation finally completed!

Last Sunday, the community and numerous visitors in Märkisch Wilmersdorf celebrated the completion of the extensive renovation work on the village church. For this festive occasion, a regional service was held at which ex-pastor Stephan Michalsky and Mayor Ronny Haase were present. Pastor Dr. Christoph Rätz gave a moving sermon about the importance of the church while around 100 people watched the celebrations.

The renovation work on the church began in 2004 with the urgent emergency securing of the dilapidated wooden tower. A lot has happened since then: in 2012 the roof structure was repaired, the roof was re-covered and the lightning protection and electrical system were replaced. The following year, the tower framework was renovated and the bell system was overhauled. In 2015 the facade received new plaster and paint, and in 2018/19 the crypt extension was redesigned. Now, in 2025, the interior renovation work has been completed, which included painting, carpentry and electrical work as well as window and floor work.

Investments for the future

The total costs for the renovation amount to an impressive 386,000 euros. These were financed by a variety of institutions, including the regional church, the church district, the state of Brandenburg as well as the Teltow-Fläming district and the city of Trebbin. The community itself also made its contribution and collected an impressive 14,800 euros to close a funding gap. Sylvia Zimmermann, the deputy chairwoman of the parish church council, played a central role in coordinating the renovation measures.

The village church has a long history: Originally known as Wendisch Wilmersdorf, it was first mentioned in 1660. In the 18th century it received a simple plastered building and a crypt extension, which was completed in 1746. In 1937 the church was given its current name, Märkisch Wilmersdorf. With the renovation completed, the church will not only be used for church services in the future, but will also be available for readings, concerts and guided tours.

Preservation of cultural heritage

The renovation of the village church is not only a structural challenge, but also an important step towards preserving the region's cultural heritage. Renovation projects on listed buildings such as churches always require precise planning and implementation in order to maintain historical integrity. The precise data and information collected during the start-up phase helps architects and specialist planners to assess the structural integrity of the structures and identify weak points. This makes a crucial contribution to preserving the valuable cultural and historical substance for future generations.

In summary, the renovation of the village church in Märkisch Wilmersdorf shows how important it is to maintain the value of old buildings. The community has joined forces to ensure that this impressive building remains a center of community life in the future.
