LAST CHANCE: Soundproofing at BER will end soon – application by November 4th!
The clock is ticking for the residents around Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER). They can still submit applications for noise insulation until November 4th, before financial support for such measures runs out. This means that now is a good time to take action, as there will be no funding after this date. As the daily news reports, the noise protection and compensation area extends over around 40 kilometers from Ludwigsfelde to Gosen and includes around 26,500 households that are entitled to noise protection.
The noise protection program was originally launched as part of the airport expansion of the former Schönefeld Airport. Residents have been able to submit applications for over 20 years, with approximately 22,800 applications having been submitted as of September 2025. Up to this point, a total of around 466 million euros had been invested in noise protection measures such as Time reported.
Current status of applications
Although applications for noise protection measures have decreased over the last two years - only 102 applications have been submitted so far this year - the current figures show a noticeable increase since October. The airport company has already processed 22,161 applications as part of the program; This means that many owners have received files for soundproofing measures or compensation payments. Sound insulation has already been installed in over 5,200 households, while implementation is still pending in around 8,100 households. In addition, around 7,700 households were promised compensation.
The airport company (FBB) has also found ways to further promote active noise protection at BER. This includes the introduction of noise-related fees, which provide for higher fees for louder flights and lower fees for quieter flights. Airlines are increasingly relying on modern, quieter aircraft and using steep take-off procedures to reduce noise on the ground. This shows that there are ongoing efforts to minimize aircraft noise for residents, as stated on the website Berlin Airport Company is displayed.
An outlook
With the deadline approaching, there is great pressure on residents to take care of their applications quickly. In recent years, the FBB has made significant efforts to improve the quality of life of residents and to provide them with financial support. The figures from the last few months show that many people want to make use of this help, which is why the opportunity should be taken now to benefit from the existing programs and investments.
