Book premiere in Klempenow: Puppeteer Soubeyrand tells the story of the turning point!
On Sunday, November 5th, 2025, a very special event is planned at Klempenow Castle: Jonas Soubeyrand, the son of actress Brigitte Soubeyran and songwriter Wolf Biermann, presents his new work “A Doll Unpacks”. The event is organized by Kultur-Transit-96 e.V., and the book presentation begins at 6 p.m. Soubeyrand, who has his roots as a puppeteer, will also bring the music of Robert Greiner Pol aka Bob Beeman to the stage.
In “A Doll Unpacks” Soubeyrand works under the pseudonym Klaus Thaler and takes readers into a fascinating world. The documentary novel tells of his life before, during and after reunification, with a special focus on the East Berlin music underground scene. The story is told from the perspective of a hand puppet named “Zorro the Bear” and is also dedicated to important events such as the occupation of “Tacheles”. The book consists of 333 pages and offers plenty of material, including 111 black and white photos and letters to the editor that accompany his experiences.
Artistic influences and the meaning of art
The roots of the art that Soubeyrand addresses in his work can be traced back to Middle Low German. The word “kunst” comes from the Proto-Germanic *kunstiz, which means “knowledge” or “skill”. This connection shows how deeply the ability and knowledge of art is anchored in our culture. So it is no coincidence that Soubeyrand developed his talent as a puppeteer and writer. Art is more than just a concept; it symbolizes the individual's expressiveness and the ability to creatively convey their experiences and emotions. Further information on the origin and meaning of the term “art” can be found on Wiktionary.
The book launch event not only involves reading, but also celebrating. On Friday, two days before, the program begins with a construction play day in which children and adults make lanterns from 11 a.m. A games evening starts at 4 p.m., where everyone is invited to bring their own games. Admission to all events is free and you can bring small snacks, which creates a cozy atmosphere that encourages exchange and encounters.
It seems as if Jonas Soubeyrand is not only presenting his life's work with his book and the accompanying events, but is also opening up a space for the community to celebrate creative development. At a time when artistic expression is more in demand than ever, it is gratifying to see how such initiatives are met with response.
Why not just stop by? Whether you love literature or are interested in art in general, there is a lot to discover and enjoy. Get inspired!
