Charly Hübner inspires with a reading about Uwe Johnson at Lake Brüssow!
On July 12, 2025, Charly Hübner, once known as the TV commissioner from “Polizeiruf 110 Rostock”, will draw literary attention to Brüssow, Uckermark. From 7 p.m., the actor, director, musician and now also author will read from his first book on the open-air stage by the lake. Doors open at 6 p.m. and tickets cost 22 euros at the door, with discounts available for advance purchase. This reading marks a premiere for the Kulturhaus Kino Brüssow, which has been a good host for cultural events like this for over 20 years Uckermark courier reported.
Hübner will read from his book “If you knew what I know… – The author of my life”. This homage to Uwe Johnson not only offers insights into Hübner's work, but also deals with the topics of origins, attitudes, books, bands and growing up in East Germany. This is exactly what makes the reading a special experience, in which Hübner will also talk about Johnson's important work “Anniversaries”. A connection to the past
Hübner, who describes Johnson as the greatest German writer of the 20th century, would like to use his words to convey to future generations what life was like in his time. In this context, the reading will also take place under the patronage of the Reading Foundation, organized together with several regional partners, such as the Mecklenburg State Theater and the Uwe Johnson Society Mecklenburg State Theater communicates.
There is a ray of hope for everyone who cannot be there that evening: the reading will be broadcast on February 23, 2025 at 8 p.m. in the NDR “Sonntagsstudio”, moderated by Christoph Bungartz from NDR Kultur. This follows the tradition of “The North Reads – The Autumn Tour”, which has been celebrating North German authors and their works since 2006.
