GDR star Ursula Werner inspires at the Prenzlauer Schäferstündchen!

There is a touch of nostalgia and anticipation in Prenzlau, because the 5th Prenzlauer Schäferstündchen will take place on Wednesday, November 5th. The Dominican monastery opens its doors at 7:30 p.m. and not only will there be an evening full of interesting conversations, but also the opportunity to get in touch with a true legend of German theater. Moderator Alexander G. Schäfer, who is known as an actor, author and director, will lead the evening.

A very special guest is Ursula Werner, who entered the hearts of many viewers with her roles in well-known DEFA films and the series “Polizeiruf 110”. Born in Eberswalde and trained at the renowned “Ernst Busch” acting school in Berlin, she brings a wealth of experience with her. Her collaboration with directors like Andreas Dresen in films like “Cloud 9” has not only earned her the German Film Prize, but also numerous other awards. Particularly noteworthy are her German Acting Prize for “The Boy Must Get Fresh Air” in 2019 and for “Doktor Ballouz – Empty Pages” in 2023.

An evening full of themes and memories

The 5th Prenzlauer Schäferstündchen will deal with the topics of life, work and the differences between East and West - a perfect opportunity to learn from the actress's rich biography. In addition to her theater engagements, including work at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, Ursula has also opened a new chapter with her autobiography “Always goes on” (2014). She can currently be seen in two productions at the Maxim Gorki Theater.

If you think that’s it, you’re wrong! The event is accompanied by a special scent. “A crazy scent of fresh hay”, the most successful comedy in the GDR, and “Frau Venus and her devil” are just some of her best-known works. These pieces are part of the cultural stories that audiences in Prenzlau can expect in the evening when they indulge in the memories of Ursula Werner.

Tickets and information

Tickets for the event are already available at the Prenzlauer Stadtinformation. There you will also find further information about the event. It is the perfect opportunity to be part of an unforgettable night where theater history comes to life and the life stories of one of Germany's most remarkable actresses are told.

For anyone interested in film and theater, this is a highlight that should not be missed. And while thinking about the stories and themes, one might wonder what a character like Ursula, the supposedly evil sea witch from Disney's The Little Mermaid, has to do with the real Ursula Werner. Both are characterized by strength and a fascinating stage presence, but in very different ways. Perhaps there will even be an interesting thought about the connections between fiction and reality that will be discussed this evening.
