Fire brigade stops forest fire on military training area! Rescuers in action!

On August 17, 2025, the volunteer fire department in Uckermark was called into action to prevent impending disaster. “Small fire, behind the brickworks, in the shelter,” was the alarm that mobilized the firefighters. The site, a Bundeswehr military training area, went up in flames. The flames had spread over two hectares of forest and the situation required quick action.

Around 60 firefighters from the surrounding districts of Blindow, Dauer, Dedelow, Güstow, Schönwerder and Klinkow fought the fire in impassable terrain. The operations manager, Michael Drawehn, and his team showed remarkable commitment and thus a good hand in fighting the fire. Thanks to their quick response, a catastrophe was averted. Kristina Wendt, the district manager of the Uckermark Forestry Office, praised the fire department's efforts and the cooperation on site.

Handover of the site and investigations

After the fire was successfully fought, the site was handed over to the Bundeswehr. It is important to mention that there was no danger from ammunition or explosive substances. Nevertheless, the criminal police investigated the cause of the fire in order to prevent similar incidents in the future. A follow-up fire investigation will follow to thoroughly clarify all aspects of the cause of the fire.
