The open-air stage in the Bürgarten Templin is up for debate: status, funding applications and future prospects on July 16, 2025.

Templin open-air theater: modernization or demolition? Decision is approaching!
The open-air stage in the Templiner Bürgarten is currently facing major challenges. The AfD parliamentary group sees a need for action given the desolate condition of the site and has submitted an application to determine the costs for upgrading the facility. This application not only calls for a replacement of the benches, but also seeks to cover the stage. The search for funding opportunities is also an essential part of this project. Discussions about the application have already taken place in several committees, including urban development, social affairs, culture, education and sport as well as the building committee.
Northern Courier reports that Christian Bork from the AfD emphasized that modernization could not only extend the event season, but also improve the quality of the offerings. This is also what Dr. Annekatrin Möwies from the CDU, who sees the open-air stage as an event location and calls for a positive view of the project. Factors such as the relevance of the open-air stage for spa guests were discussed by Dr. Ruth Mähl (CDU) highlighted.
Mayor Christian Hartphiel (SPD) refers to previous attempts to make the stage more lively and expresses concerns about its long-term usability. Two options are on the table: repairs or dismantling the stage. Alexander Köppen, head of the department, brings legal problems into play, especially with regard to noise regulations. The decision as to whether and how to proceed now lies with the city council, who will decide on the application on July 16th.
The location of the open-air stage is part of the larger overall picture of the “citizen garden” in Templin, which could offer numerous leisure opportunities over an area of around 57 hectares. Particularly area 1 with its 9 hectares between Röddeliner Strasse and the Templiner Canal could, like templin polczynzdroj project describes, be redesigned. The Bürgergarten is to be developed into a family-oriented health adventure park that will attract both German and Polish guests. The planning phase includes measures to revitalize the park area as a recreational area.
Funding could also be considered for the future of the open-air stage. The State government of North Rhine-Westphalia provides support to venues seeking funding for sets, costumes and technical equipment. You can apply for funding between 3,000 and 10,000 euros, although your own contribution is desirable. The application deadlines ensure that financial resources can be made available in good time before the start of the season.
The path to revitalizing the open-air stage in the Templin Bürgarten has been paved, but the support of everyone involved is needed to revitalize the charming place for leisure and culture. The coming weeks will be decisive as to whether the AfD's proposal receives support or whether the stage remains behind the scenes.
