Wedding with heart: Couple collects for breast cancer center in Neubrandenburg
On August 11, 2025, Sarah Schartow and Sebastian Hechler celebrated their wedding in a very special way: Instead of gifts, they asked their guests for donations for two important projects. The couple decided to donate 1,300 euros each to the parish and the breast cancer center at the Neubrandenburg Clinic. This unusual initiative was not only very well received by the wedding guests, but also won the heart of senior physician Sabine Prösch, who informed the couple about the intended use of the donations during a visit to the clinic.
Sarah Schartow, who was treated at the breast cancer center herself, can tell you first-hand how important this support is. The donations collected are used, among other things, to purchase feel-good boxes that are intended to alleviate the side effects of therapy, as well as to redesign the lounge for breast cancer patients in the oncology day clinic. In addition, a cooling device with new foot cuffs will be added to help patients with discomfort. Another highlight are the cosmetic courses, which offer tips on skin care during therapy.
Generous commitment to the women's run
The Neubrandenburg Women's Run, which took place this year with around 1,700 participants, made another significant contribution to supporting breast cancer patients. The run raised a whopping 18,000 euros, which also benefited the Breast Cancer Center at the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Clinic. This sum will be used to decorate the patient rooms in the women's clinic and equip them with new furniture.
The organizers Andrea Anna and Angelika Schlender-Kamp handed over the donations personally at the clinic and informed senior physician Sabine Prösch about the planned improvements, such as comfortable chairs, new curtains and inviting colors. Part of the proceeds, exactly 2,000 euros, goes to a volunteer group that sews heart pillows for breast cancer patients.
A look into the future
The next anniversary run of the women's run is planned for May 10, 2026. With a special program and exciting surprises, this event will once again provide a platform to draw attention to the topic of breast cancer and to collect further donations.
Commitment like that of Sarah Schartow and Sebastian Hechler as well as the events surrounding the women's run impressively show how important it is to stand up for the needs of breast cancer patients. More and more people are committed to positive change and helping to support the fight against this disease. Initiatives and organizations such as medde.org solicit donations and offer support to patients so that they can gain courage and hope as they find their way through diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
Thanks to such actions it becomes clear: It is a community affair to keep everyone together in this fight and to achieve positive things - from the wedding celebration to the women's run.
