Cancer defeated: Uckermark boy receives dream guitar from donors!
What's new in the Uckermark? A touching event recently caused a stir: a teenager who has been being treated for cancer at the Berlin University Medical Center for months was delighted with a special surprise. The “Uckermark Against Leukemia” (UgL) association made his heart’s wish come true – a brand new Yamaha electric guitar. Many people responded to a call for donations and helped put a smile on this music lover's face. The association focused on public support in order to draw attention to the fate of children with cancer. The UgL team would like to thank everyone who donated and hopes that the young man will soon be able to play his first song.
The fundraising events that the association organizes are diverse and range from cake bazaars to raffles. Over 22,000 euros were collected in the last campaign initiated by the REWE stores in the region alone. Doreen Rösler, market manager in Angermünde, personally handed over the check to the club chairwoman Ines Baumgarten. These financial resources are not only used for the needs of individual children, but are also used to plan a patient mobile that can specifically transport electric wheelchair users.
Help for the whole family
The association's support is not just limited to children with cancer. The challenges that the affected families face are enormous. Families often have to deal with the severe shock of a cancer diagnosis and reorganize their lives. “The road back to everyday life is long and difficult,” adds the German Cancer Aid, which emphasizes that not only the sick children, but also siblings and parents need sensitive care.
The UgL's further commitment includes typing campaigns for the German bone marrow donor database and the establishment of a parents' kitchen in the Charité's pediatric oncology department. These help to make the hospital stay a little more bearable and create space for the whole family to bond together. The constantly growing need for support also makes it clear that the association relies on donations in order to be able to continue to help.
If you would also like to help improve the lives of sick children and their families, you can transfer donations directly to the association's account. From a sum of 300 euros per year, a donation receipt is issued for the tax office.
Finally, it remains to be said: it is in our hands to give hope. Together we can make a difference. Every euro counts, and perhaps the next song the young musician plays on his new guitar will be a thank you to everyone who helped.
