Kutzerow and Dolgen celebrate 650 years with the Stroh-Brandenburg Gate!
On July 5, 2025, the tranquil village of Kutzerow in the Uckermark district will be all about the festival: the small village is proudly celebrating its 650th anniversary. A big anniversary is being celebrated together with neighboring Dolgen, which celebrates both the history and the community of around 250 residents. Will it be a great festival that will captivate visitors?
The event begins with a festive welcome, where local mayor Josef Menke warmly welcomes the visitors. To mark the festival, he had an impressive replica of the Brandenburg Gate built from straw bales, including the famous Quadriga. With this, the residents of Kutzerow are making a humorous statement and showing how much fun they will have on this special day.
A festival full of tradition and joy
The entire place is festively decorated for the anniversary. Bunting, flower arrangements and larger-than-life straw cows create an inviting atmosphere. A memorial stone is ceremoniously unveiled early in the morning - a moment that focuses on Kutzerow's history. Can the village show its roots to the local residents?
The day's program leaves nothing to be desired: A parade, led by the shawm band from Penkun, starts at 1 p.m. The festival site offers a variety of offers and attractions that promise an experience for both young and old. Gunther Arthaber has distinguished himself as a committed chronicler of Kutzerow and Dolgen and has published an extensive 90-page commemorative publication on the history of the villages. This not only sheds light on historical events, but also brings to light amusing anecdotes, such as the transmission error with pigs instead of swans.
In the evening, the band “Die Herzogen” will provide dance music, and the highlight will be fireworks, donated by Alexandra Simons from Thuringia, lighting up the sky over Kutzerow. A crowning conclusion to a day that could hardly have been more beautiful.
Kutzerow – a historical gem
Kutzerow, located in the Jagow district, has an impressive history that dates back to the 14th century. The development of the district was shaped over the centuries by various landowners, in particular the von Winterfeld family, which looks back on a long tradition in the region. These historical roots could partly explain why Kutzerow is still a lively village with a stable population and no vacancies.
Another characteristic feature of the community is the nearby biogas plant, which ensures low heat supply costs of only 60-70 euros per month. This environmentally friendly energy source is a real plus for residents and contributes to the high quality of life in the region.
Overall, the festival in Kutzerow not only shows how lively the village community is, but also how important it is to preserve the characters of historical villages. The historic village centers in Brandenburg offer identity and orientation in times of change. The focus should be on maintaining the existing buildings in order to preserve the charming character of the villages.
Kutzerow could therefore be an example of how to reconcile tradition and modernity. It remains to be seen whether the celebrations in the Uckermark will provide a new impetus for rural development. But the enthusiasm of the residents and the warm atmosphere are definitely a promising start.
