The focus: Rostock winner in the home check 2025!

In a comprehensive residents' survey, which took place between May 23 and June 22, 2025, 16,664 participants, including 15,183 from the focus region, rated the quality of life in their area. It was shown that Rostock, with a rating of 7.33 points, occupies the top position among the cities examined on a scale from 1 to 10. This is reported by the Nordkurier . Further remarkable results concerned regions such as Nordwestmecklenburg (7.17) and Vorpommern-Rügen (7.16), which were also very popular.

In the overall view, there is an average of the quality of life of 6.95, with citizens, above all, positively highlighted cleanliness (7.42) and leisure opportunities (6.96). However, there are also challenges: wind turbines, lack of doctors and poor shops were identified as stressful factors that can affect the quality of life in the region.

Rostock in international comparison

The city of Rostock not only stands out in a regional comparison, but also takes part in an international comparison of city. According to a recent study, the Rathaus Rostock was included in a survey that comprises more than 70,000 people from 83 European cities and metropolitan areas. The city has been participating in the European city comparison "Urban Audit" since 2009, which is coordinated by Eurostat. The quality of life in over 800 European cities is regularly recorded.

Rostock is not only valued by its citizens, but also focused on the international parquet. The comparison with other cities enables an objective assessment of the living conditions and shows potential to further increase the quality of life.

The voice of the citizens counts

The most important aspects of the quality of life in Rostock are not only the result of quantitative surveys, but also a central component of the citizens' dialogue that the federal government initiated. The Bürgerdialog asked the population what it understands life quality. Independent scientists have evaluated the answers and developed an indicator system that should serve as a yardstick for political planning in Germany in the future.

The knowledge from these dialogues and surveys should serve to focus on the quality of life of the individual and to create corresponding scope for political decisions. In this way, quality of life not only becomes a catchphrase, but a concrete goal of politics.
