Lila Wunder: Lavender Festival in the Uckermark attracts thousands of visitors!
The Uckermark is known for its idyllic landscapes and its relaxing atmosphere. However, this region will turn into an absolute lavender paradise this region next weekend. Joanna and Karol Olszewski, who have been growing lavender on the outskirts of Grimme since 2017, invite you to the harvest festival, where visitors not only admire the purple flowers, but can also lend a hand themselves. Each helper can take home every tenth bouquet - an offer that the lavender lovers should not miss. The first harvest festival this year was already over 2,000 visitors, and this time a big rush is expected. According to the Borkener Zeitung, the atmosphere with lavender ice, lavender cake and a variety of other lavender products such as pillows, liqueur and fragrance bags are accompanied.
But what makes the lavender so special in the Uckermark? The lavender thrives particularly well in the climatic conditions of Brandenburg. With colder temperatures, the plant has more time to collect its valuable essential oils, which are known for its calming and anxious traits. This is also confirmed by scientist Anne Rademacher. She described that the dry, calcareous soils and the plenty of sunlight support the growth of the lavender in summer.
from the idea for success
The Olszewskis originally had a completely different vision: Joanna was looking for a place for horses and gnadenhof, while Karol wanted the children to learn other languages in addition to Polish. However, the way to growing lavender was not easy. Initial bureaucratic hurdles asked for a lot of patience from the two. Today you can harvest ten different types of lavender on almost three hectares. 16,000 lavender plants are cultivated annually, and harvest takes place early in the morning to preserve the essential oils. In an old tobacco barn, the lavender is then dried for two to three weeks.
diverse uses
The health benefits of the lavender are impressive. It has a calming effect and helps to reduce stress. Linalool and Linalyl acetate contained in the essential oils have anti -inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Many people use lavender in aromatherapy, not only because of the pleasant fragrance, but also to support sleep problems, headaches and skin care. Lavender can also be used in the kitchen, be it in sweet desserts, hearty dishes or teas.
For the future, the Olszewskis are planning to further optimize their harvest through mechanical support. Until then, the traditional manual approach remains, which catches the charm and personal touch of the harvest. From cultivation to harvest to the products - lavender is more than just a plant. He is an experience for all the senses and a little vacation for the soul.
In summary, it can be said that the lavender festival not only is an opportunity for a nice weekend, but also an interesting discovery for everyone who wants to learn more about this fascinating plant. And who knows, maybe visiting Olszewskis is the beginning of a new passion for lavender! For more information, visit the articles from Borkener Zeitung href = "https://www.berliner-kurier.de/berlin/brandenburg/kurier-such-im-lavendel-paradies-sie-glauben-nichtwie-giese-pflanze-li.370200"> Berliner Kurier and the Gewürzlexikon .
