Combine rogules are in flames - village just barely escapes a catastrophe!

In a dramatic episode on July 2, the municipality of Uckerland was shaken by a violent combine. At 10.30 a.m., residents alerted the volunteer fire brigades from Hetzdorf and Güterberg, after a combine on the village street in the Lemmersdorf district rose in flames. The driver, who initially tried to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher, soon had to give up because the flames were already fully raged.  Nordkurier reports that the situation quickly escalated as the tank of the Mähdreschers exploded And diesel era, which inflamed an adjacent hedge in front of two residential buildings.

The fire brigade immediately moved up with forces from the surrounding communities of Jagow, Wolfshagen, Wittstock and Strasburg to prevent worse things. A quick action by the emergency services was able to prevent the flames from spreading to the residential buildings, where only two window panes were affected. Fortunately, there were no injuries, which is considered a real miracle by witnesses. The use lasted until the evening and required the recovering of the burned wreck with a crane, while the police determined the cause of the fire and consider a possible technical defect. The estimated amount of damage is around 200,000 euros.

technical defects as a common cause of fire

But the fire in Lemmersdorf is not the only incident that has caused excitement lately. On Saturday, June 30th, a combine harvester on harvesting work in Petersberg (Saalekreis). The 24-year-old driver was able to get to safety in good time, while the fire brigade prevented the flames from spreading to the neighboring grain field. With 144 firefighters and 18 vehicles, the operation was considerable. The property damage is estimated at around one million euros, and here too a technical defect was identified as a probable cause of the fire. n-tv reports about these alarming events.

technical defects are unfortunately a common cause of such fires. The main risks are overheatings, electrical short circuits and hydraulic leaves, which, according to an expert blog of Therlo , occur with a lack of maintenance. Overheatings can be triggered, for example, by defective cooling systems or overloaded motor components, while electrical short circuits and leaks of the hydraulic systems are serious fire hazards.

It is therefore essential that farmers and operators of harvesting machines carry out regular maintenance and inspections in order to counteract potential fire risks at an early stage. The incidents in Uckerland and Petersberg warn of taking flame protection and technical security in the agricultural sector seriously.
