Magical nights in the coastal forest: Forest Culture Night on September 13th!

The Rostock Heath, the largest closed coastal forest in Germany, stretches over an impressive 6,000 hectares from Markgrafenheide to Graal-Müritz. Things will get really exciting here on September 13, 2025, because the fourth Forest Culture Night is just around the corner. This festive event is organized by the organizers: the City Forestry Office, Forst- und Köhlerhof and the Rostock and Warnemünde Tourism Office and promises a varied program for the whole family.

The spectacle begins at 2:30 p.m. at the city forestry office in Wiethagen. Jörg Harmuth, the head of the city forestry office, emphasizes the importance of the Rostock Heath for biological diversity and explains that such an event helps to promote interest in nature. At the beginning, guests can expect a musical picnic with the “Jaenine Wahldiek Band”, followed by a performance by the artists from the Stelzentheater, who will accompany visitors throughout the day.

Diverse program at several stations

The Forest Culture Night offers a total of seven stations that can be easily reached using a barrier-free shuttle service – the Kremsershuttle. The shuttle is free and takes guests between the different venues. Departure times are well thought out to ensure no one misses the highlights:

  • 15:00 Uhr: Abfahrt vom Köhlerhof in Wiethagen
  • 16:00 Uhr: Ankunft am Parkplatz Stubbenwiese
  • 18:00 Uhr: Abfahrt vom Köhlerhof in Wiethagen
  • 22:00 Uhr: Fackelwanderung durch den Skulpturenpfad

A special highlight is the area at the Heidehaus in Markgrafenheide, where a family-friendly program is offered with children's entertainment, a bouncy castle and a cake bazaar. Here the little ones can play happily while the older ones look forward to the culinary delicacies available at the Köhlerhof, including goulash and venison bratwurst.

Music and adventure at twilight

The live music acts are an absolute must for the music lovers among the guests. From 8 p.m. Wolfgang Rieck creates a great atmosphere after the stilt figures have started the campfire concert. There will also be a concert by the “Tüdderkram” group at the Baltic Freizeit campsite at 5 p.m., as well as at the Hotel Godewind, where live music begins in the outdoor area.

For the more adventurous, the Markgrafenheide climbing forest opens its doors between 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. and allows you to enjoy the evening twilight from a lofty height. DJ “Doktär Love” will also provide the best entertainment here from 7 p.m.

The Forest Culture Night is not only a feast for the senses, but also a welcome opportunity to explore the diversity and beauty of the Rostock Heath. If you want to experience the event to the fullest, it's best to go by bike or use the Rövershagen S-Bahn stop, which is only a short way to Köhlerhof. In addition to all the musical and culinary highlights, there is also a beautiful conclusion with the torchlight hike at 10 p.m. - an unforgettable experience under the starry sky.
