Neubrandenburg: Attacker sentenced to prison – Witt in focus!
Today, November 1st, 2025, a judgment in the Uckermark is causing a stir. Two 30-year-old men were each sentenced to nine months in prison for a violent attack in Strasburg in September 2024 and for insulting the former mayor of Neubrandenburg, Silvio Witt. How Northern Courier reported, the sentence was suspended for three years.
The two defendants were on trial for common grievous bodily harm. The trouble began when they tried to steal beer bottles from a 28-year-old man's bicycle basket. A scuffle developed which led to a heated argument. The victim reported that he was pushed to the ground and kicked multiple times. Throughout the entire trial, the defendants remained silent and did not reveal any information about their personal surroundings. The judge noted that the punishment for bodily harm is eight months, while the insult, which carried a €2,000 fine, also plays a role.
A highly controversial incident
The removal of Witt's privacy is a flashpoint story. The younger defendant said in a chat that Witt should be “stoned,” which led to a criminal complaint from Witt himself, who appeared as a witness and described his view of an incident after a Christmas party. This happened in the context of a video illegally recorded in December 2023 that was made public in January 2024. According to the judge, Witt's protection of his honor outweighs his right to freedom of expression.
Both men have no previous convictions and must each pay an additional 1,000 euros as a fine. In recent weeks there have been several judgments in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for insults against politicians, which continues to fuel public discussion. Witt, who is openly gay, resigned as mayor early in the spring of 2025 - a step that caused a stir nationwide.
A personal loss in the celebrity world
Ryan described his father as a loving husband and great grandfather, as well as his closest friend. In one nostalgic picture, a young Ryan in a suit can be seen with his father, as well as another that shows the two of them cooking. Such personal stories show that behind the headlines there are always human fates.
As the headlines mix, a whirlpool of right and injustice, the hope remains that society learns from such incidents and continues to improve.
