Prenzlau: The former office building is becoming a colorful health academy!

In Prenzlau, a former office building at Brüssower Allee 91 is bringing a breath of fresh air. The building, which was recently discussed in the news as a possible refugee shelter, is now being transformed into a colorful attraction for education and security. Just in time for the start of the building renovation, the previously planned refugee accommodation measures were canceled on October 1, 2025. UEG managing director Mike Förster made it clear that there was no mandatory termination of the rental agreements; Rather, most tenants have pulled the ripcord themselves.

With a total volume of around 5.5 million euros, the five-story building will now open a new chapter. While the gutting work and preparations for facade insulation are already underway, the Uckermärkische Entwicklunggesellschaft has placed the planning in the hands of the Prenzlau engineering firm Olaf Thorhauer. Not only training rooms are planned, but also various facilities for disaster control and the Academy of Health, which wants to start training up to 60 emergency paramedics on April 1, 2026.

Future use of the building

The interior of the home will be remodeled to accommodate a full catalog of support services. Meeting and training rooms are planned for the Academy of Health on the ground floor, while the first floor will be available for training measures for the emergency services. On the second floor there will be space for the district's disaster response, including garages for emergency vehicles.

Furthermore, the education office and the objections authority will move into the fourth floor. Finally, boarding places for emergency paramedics and overnight accommodation for lecturers will be provided on the top floor. The building permit for the boarding school places is currently pending, but planning is in full swing.

Special aspects of the renovation work

A key challenge in the current renovation work is the protection of protected swallows, which have 69 nests on the facade. The facade work should begin in the colder season so as not to be a burden on the birds.

With this comprehensive remodeling, the office building will become an important location for education and security in the region. While local political decisions such as the end of refugee accommodation are always the subject of debate, this project shows how a building can be repurposed to serve the community.

Parallel to these developments, local initiatives such as the streaming offer are taking place tv.garden more and more popular. It offers an easy way to access international content, a welcome distraction in times of change. In an interactive 3D globe, users can access a wide range of news, sports and entertainment - without account registration.

This example shows how dynamic and at the same time challenging the current situation in Prenzlau is. As construction progresses, it remains to be seen what new impetus this now colorful office building will bring to the region.
