Peace and quiet in idyllic Klein Upahl: Investigations into Fabian's death put a strain on the village

In the idyllic community of Klein Upahl on the banks of the lake of the same name, the wind only blows quietly through the streets since the investigation into the tragic Fabian murder case captivated the village community. About two weeks ago, the body of eight-year-old Fabian was found near the village, an event that noticeably dampened the mood but nevertheless awakened a spark of hope.

Again Uckermark courier reports that the neighboring steakhouse “Brazil” is suffering from the shadow of the investigation. In a short time, around 10 to 12 reservations were canceled there, including a party with 13 people and a hunting party from Denmark. Some guests considered the cancellations for health reasons, while others openly admitted that they did not want to come because of Fabian's case. “It’s just depressing,” says Frank Berding, owner of the Gutshof am See, who notices a noticeable calm in the community.

Joint Advent campaign as a ray of hope

In order to counteract the oppressive circumstances, Berding is planning an Advent campaign in which the citizens of Klein Upahl and the surrounding area can actively participate in village life. “We have to stick together and spread optimism,” he explains. To promote this spirit, the steakhouse “Brazil” will also be launching a special Advent calendar.

The response to Berding's initiative seems promising: 18 participants, including members of the local council and the fire department, have already expressed their interest in the Advent event. The estate will also be open on rest days to offer villagers and visitors a point of contact.

Tourism: The situation remains stable

While the atmosphere in restaurants and shops suffers from the effects of the murder, there is positive news from vacation rentals. According to reports from Christian Schumann, a provider of holiday apartments in the region, the long-term rental accommodations and the campsite in Lohmen are not experiencing any cancellations. The tourist information center in Güstrow cannot confirm any negative effects on bookings.

The villagers of Klein Upahl remain confident and want to show that they stand together even in difficult times. “We have to continue to believe in our village and our traditions,” emphasizes Berding, pointing out the long history of cohesion in the region. We can only hope that this positive attitude will be heard even more in the cold season.
