Soapbox race in Templin: Hot vehicles delight spectators!

On June 23, 2025, Mühlenstrasse in Templin was once again the scene of a colorful and lively soap box race that took place during the traditional City Wall Festival. The roads were closed for an hour, providing the perfect backdrop for the exciting event. Twelve soapboxes had registered and the atmosphere was charged with anticipation and excitement, because it wasn't just about speed, but also about creativity and team spirit.

The Klockow Volunteer Fire Department Association V. was at the start with five self-made soapboxes, which underlined that the fire brigade has been an integral part of this event since the beginning of the City Wall Festival. “We want to offer children and families a great time,” explained Michel Preschel, who proudly pointed out a new vehicle that was created in cooperation with the Prenzlau public utilities and small solar elements.

Just in time for the competition

The idea for building the colorfully painted boxes came from the youth fire department, as youth warden Hardy Müller revealed. The race is not only a sporting event, but also a successful teamwork of the younger generation. Jolina, who took part from the Templin leisure facility “Die Insel”, presented a soap box built by children in a wooden workshop, which was decorated with a lot of love and skill.

Anni, a ten-year-old participant, was traveling with the Templin Tourism Association's soapbox - it was her first race and the excitement was written all over her face. This new experience brought them into a world full of fun and team spirit, welcome to the “Soapbox Drivers Club”. The jury also had the task of evaluating the boxes in terms of their visual design, route performance and the distance covered.

A celebration for the whole family

Although the temperatures were high, the large number of spectators did not stop from giving the participants the necessary support by cheering loudly. The conditions for participation were clear and well thought out: each soapbox had to have a steering wheel and brakes, and participants were required to wear a safety helmet. These safety regulations ensured a healthy dose of coolness and safety.

The motto of the City Wall Festival was clear: fun for everyone! And that wasn't just important for the participants. The spectators should also get their money's worth and enjoy the creativity of the soapboxes. Thanks to committed sponsors, the event ran smoothly and the best soapboxes were rewarded with prizes. Ultimately, the soapbox race shows how important shared commitment and having fun are.

For all those who are interested in similar events: Soapbox races are not only popular in Templin, but also in other cities. For example, the soap box race in Moers will be organized in the amusement park in the next few months, with a focus on fun and creativity and a wide age range from 7 to 88 years - that gives it a completely different impetus.

Whether you are interested in creative construction or a sporting challenge, everyone feels comfortable in the role of a little racing driver in the soapbox races. It will be exciting to see what the next race has in store for us!
