Swen Glasenapp is fighting for more security: flasher dummy in Lützlow!

In Lützlow, a carpenter causes excitement, because the safety of the children in this small town has brought him to an innovative idea. Swen Glasenapp, father of four children, observed every day, as in the newly developed road between Lützlow and Wollin, many vehicles significantly exceed the top speed of 50 km/h. The rapid speed of over 80 km/h is particularly worrying, which he had to determine in a 40-tonner truck. With two youngest children aged 7 and 12, Glasenapp wonders: How safe can we live here?

In recent years there has already been a movement in the village to achieve a speed limit at 30 km/h. Over 400 signatures were collected, but the only reaction of the authorities was the simple transfer of the entrance sign by 25 meters. "There is something!" Says Glasenapp and believes that residents for the construction of a footpath have been paid for years, but nobody acts. Therefore, the family became creative: they attached a ball to the fence and put on dolls to draw the drivers' attention to the dangers.

innovative measures for more security

The braking maneuvers of many drivers often only happen at the church - nothing for the safety of the children! This problem is also not isolated, because in 2023 in Germany, according to the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport, 27,235 children in road traffic, including 44, who died. Initiatives such as those of Glasenapp aim to reduce dangerous speed and increase traffic safety are all the more important. At the end of the week, he put a deceptively real flashy dummy that had the desired effect: many drivers braked when they came by.

The police who finally came to him showed understanding for the argument behind the speed reduction. However, they pointed out that the dummy was too close to the edge of the road. However, the dialogue remains open: In conversations about speed controls, it was considered to use real speed cameras more often in town. Glasenapp hopes that his initiative will rush fewer drivers with 70 or 80 km/h through Lützlow.

important traffic safety for children

For the safety of the children, it is essential to pay attention to their protection in road traffic. Wearing helmets when cycling, for example, accustomed the children to safety precautions at an early stage. Children under the age of seven may only be taken in special bicycle seats that are important for their safety - a visit to the specialist trade is recommended to find the right seat. According to the website of kindergesundheit-info.de, alternatives such as special bicycle children's trailers should also be considered, which are not only more secure, but also more spacious.

With all of these measures, the hope that the security situation for children in Lützlow and anywhere will soon get better. The initiative of parents and support of authorities is needed to actively improve the quality of life and the safety of the little ones in road traffic.
