Uckermärkische Musikwochen: A festival of sounds in unique places!
The Uckermärkische Musikwochen are just around the corner and promise a full program full of musical highlights! From August 2nd to 24th, 2025, the idyllic places of the Uckermark will be transformed into a stage for rare instruments and diverse musical cultures from all over the world. This year the human voice is the “Instrument of the Year” and will be presented in a total of 12 concerts. Anyone who visits the event can look forward to an exciting mix of time-honored sounds and modern arrangements that are definitely worth a visit.
Let's get to the highlight of the first weekend! On August 16th, fans of early music will be challenged, as there will be first-class concerts at three different locations at 4 p.m. The “rosenroth” ensemble will perform its anniversary concert “All my thoughts” in the Altkünkendorf village church. Here the listeners can expect a mix of old masterpieces and folk songs that set new accents. Right next door in the Berkholz village church, the ensemble “Vocame” will bring the mystical sounds of the medieval poet Hadewijch to life, supported by local instruments and the magical voices of soprano and mezzo-soprano.
For those looking for something humorous, a visit to the “Rusty Fox Country Club” in Kuhz is worth it. Dagmar Šašková and Monika Knoblochová perform Erik Satie's amusing piano compositions. If you can't smile here, you really can't enjoy anything anymore!
Mystical harmonies and masterpieces
But that's not all: On Sunday, August 17th, at 4 p.m. there will be an award-winning concert by the ensemble “I sogni” in the Fergitz village church. Works from the 15th to 17th centuries can be heard here, which fit perfectly into the atmosphere of the historical surroundings. At Mürow Castle you can look forward to “Duo Silento”, which enchants with its interpretations of Spanish melodies, including works by García Lorca and Albéniz.
There is a special highlight on Sunday at 6 p.m.: The “Collegium Marianum” plays in the auditorium of the former Joachimsthalsche Gymnasium in Templin under the direction of Jana Semerádová. Pieces from Bach's “Musical Sacrifice” and other compositions from the time of Frederick II will be performed. For those interested in history, there is also a guided tour of the historic school grounds.
A feast for the senses
With all the musical enjoyment, physical well-being should not be neglected either. Culinary surprises are offered at all concert locations to pamper visitors. The Uckermärkische Musikwochen are more than just a festival - they are an invitation to immerse yourself in the world of early music and be inspired by the variety of sounds and instruments, including the viola d'amore, serpent, torban and many other rarities.
The event series has now become a gem in the German festival landscape, continually presenting new facets of early music. The German Music Information Center emphasizes that the events stand out from other concerts due to their international aspects and thematic focus. It's the perfect opportunity to experience new sounds and the life of bygone eras - a true celebration for young and old!
