Over 100 people from Schwerin are sending a strong message against the right!

Last Saturday, more than 100 citizens came together in Schwerin to send a strong signal against right-wing ideologies. The “Faces Against the Right” initiative made a stop on its tour at the Museum of Values on Schlossstrasse. Malte Höners, a committed 59-year-old from Schwerin, was among the participants. He had his photo taken by co-initiator and photographer Kai Mattern and wanted to use this picture to make his stand for democracy, openness and respect clear. At times there was a long queue in front of the small photo studio that had been set up specifically for this event.

The initiative, which has been active in Germany since February 2023, was supported by a large number of people, including the committed Caroline Fehlandt, who also wanted to show a face against hatred. The photographs should be on the homepage www.facesagainstrights.org, on social media and in exhibitions. Through its tour, which covers a total of 22 German cities, the initiative aims to promote broader participation in society and send a strong signal about the values of our democracy.

High number of participants in Schwerin

In Schwerin, the number of participants at 105 people exceeded the average of around 50 participants in the other cities that have been visited so far Uckermark courier reported. This high level of response shows that interest in supporting democratic principles is alive in the city. Due to the great interest, “Faces Against the Right” will stop again in Schwerin in spring 2024.

The importance of such actions is given additional emphasis against the backdrop of an increasingly polarized society. According to a current federal government strategy aimed at combating extremism and strengthening democracy, political crime is increasing. Violence against politicians and attacks on emergency services by extremists have increased sharply in recent years. The federal government is planning measures that combine preventive approaches in political education, but also repressive punitive measures to combat racism and other discriminatory ideologies. Civil society participation and the protection of democratic values in the digital space should be particularly promoted.

The commitment in Schwerin is a classic example of how citizens can send a strong signal through simple but effective actions. It is important that voices continue to be raised against hatred and for respectful coexistence. The city's streets not only become a setting for everyday life, but also a platform for change and pulling together in difficult times.
