Wolletzsee: Swimming is safe again! Health department lifts blue-green algae warning
There is good news for all bathing enthusiasts in Angermünde! After extensive investigations, the Uckermark health department has reopened the beach on Wolletzsee to visitors. After the massive blue-green algae infestation that was discovered on July 28, 2025, there was increased caution in the region. However, thanks to successful laboratory tests, the all-clear can now be given: swimming in Wolletzsee is again classified as safe.
However, the health department remains vigilant. It is still advised to exercise caution, especially with children, as blue-green algae can be harmful to health and can cause symptoms such as nausea, fever and skin irritation. A visual inspection of the water before use is recommended: If greenish-blueish streaks or carpets of algae are visible, it is probably blue-green algae.
Bathing fun in the lido
For everyone who is drawn to the refreshing waters: Entry to the lido is 3 euros, reduced for just 1 euro. Anyone looking for fun with the family will be happy about the newly opened playgrounds at the lido. Here you can enjoy the summer and relax on the lawn. There was even no entry fee during the warning, ensuring that people still had the opportunity to exercise in the fresh air.
The health department also emphasizes that the water quality is monitored regularly, not only in Wolletzsee, but also at neighboring bathing areas. High temperatures and increased nutrient input promote the growth of blue-green algae, which is why bathers are asked to report any abnormalities in the water quality immediately so that they can react quickly. Finally, it is important to continue to follow bathing rules and sun protection in order to have fun in the water safely.
Falkland Islands: A brief outlook
Interesting developments are currently taking place in a completely different part of the world. The Falkland Islands, a British overseas territory in the South Atlantic, occupy the international discourse. The history of these islands is marked by countless political controversies. The main islands, located about 500 km east of Patagonia, have a total area of 12,000 km² and are known not only for their breathtaking landscapes but also for their economic activities such as fishing and sheep farming.
The population was around 3,662 in 2021, and the islands have repeatedly struggled with sovereignty claims throughout their history, particularly from Argentina. Despite the political tensions and the historical conflicts over ownership, the population clearly decides to remain in the British overseas territory.
While Angermünde can enjoy the welcome reopening of the Wolletzsee, the world stage remains dynamic and it is always exciting to follow developments. Whether at the beach or on the Falkland Islands - the world is full of stories worth telling.
