Two driving bans in just two days: alcohol offenders in the crosshairs!

On July 8, 2025, the police in Angermünde and Prenzlau were called upon. In both cities she had to intervene due to alcohol and drug-impaired drivers. This is particularly fatal for road safety, as drinking alcohol while driving not only endangers other road users, but also has serious consequences for those affected.

In Angermünde, officers noticed a 44-year-old driver who was being checked on Dobberziner Dorfstrasse. The rapid drug test fit into the picture and responded positively. Not only does this man have to expect a blood sample, but he will also receive mail from the Gransee fines office, which will inform him of the amount of his fine. According to the regulations in Germany, there are severe penalties for driving under the influence of drugs, which cannot be taken lightly when it comes to road safety, as Nordkurier reports.

Driving under the influence of alcohol

At the same time, a 57-year-old car driver who smelled strongly of alcohol was stopped in Prenzlau. A breath alcohol test showed 1.00 per mille. At this value, he had to end his journey immediately - this is not only a personal setback, but also has public consequences. The driver will have to expect a fine of 500 euros, two points in Flensburg and a one-month driving ban, according to the regulations on ADAC. A blood test could also result in even higher penalties if the result shows that your alcohol level is over 1.1 per mille, which would mean that you are completely unfit to drive.

In Germany there are clear blood alcohol limits that every driver should know. The following applies to new drivers under the age of 21 and during their probationary period: zero alcohol content. At 0.3 per mille it becomes dangerous because the relative inability to drive begins. From 0.5 per mille, a fine of 500 euros can be imposed, which could cleverly be reflected in the driver's car repairs.

Penalties for driving under the influence of alcohol

The legal consequences could have serious consequences for the drivers affected. From 1.6 per mille, the authorities require a medical-psychological examination (MPU) to assess fitness to drive. In the case of drunk driving on private property that is open to the public, penalties can also be imposed, which many may not know. The insurance companies are often indecisive here; In the event of an accident, motor vehicle liability could demand repayments of up to 5,000 euros if it can be proven that the policyholder was drunk at the time of the accident, as described in the provisions on Fuehrerscheine.

This mere example tragically illustrates what all too often happens in modern-day traffic accidents. Having a good hand in traffic means getting to your destination safely, even without alcohol or drugs. It is not for nothing that the police are forced to take action against such crimes again and again. Both men who were controlled in the above cases now face the challenge of accepting their punishments and changing their behavior in the future.
