Election in Brandenburg: How to secure your postal voting documents!
In Brandenburg an der Havel, the election of the mayor is right around the corner. On November 9, 2025, all citizens eligible to vote will have the opportunity to cast their vote and elect the future city leader. So that no one misses the date, stadt-brandenburg.de emphasizes that the election notification letters will be sent by October 19, 2025 at the latest. However, if you have not yet received a notification, you should take action by February 2, 2025 at the latest and ensure that you are registered on the electoral roll.
The election notification is important because it confirms that you are on the electoral roll. If this is missing, it could unfortunately lead to you being excluded from the election. Therefore, the advice to everyone is: “It’s better to ask questions than to be annoyed later!” In order to vote, you need an identity card or passport on election day, as the Federal Returning Officer emphasizes on her website bundeswahlleiterin.de.
Postal voting for flexibility
Anyone who is unable to attend on election day does not have to forego their right to vote. The issue of postal voting is becoming increasingly important. Those entitled to vote can submit an application for a postal vote using the election notification letter or obtain this in person at the Citizens' Office. From October 20, 2025 the time has come: Applications will take place on the first floor of Nicolaiplatz 30. There, citizens not only receive voting slips, but also the necessary documents for postal voting.
Particularly interesting: People with mobility impairments also have the opportunity to vote without barriers. You can either apply for a voting slip or use postal voting! To ensure that everything arrives on time, the completed postal voting envelope should be dropped off at Deutsche Post by November 6, 2025 at the latest.
International voters
What about our compatriots abroad? They should also be able to take part in the federal election. The deadline for registration in the electoral roll was February 2, 2025. Anyone who missed this deadline would have to wait for the next election. Germans abroad can only vote if they have previously submitted an application for registration, as bundestag.de describes informatively.
There are also large numbers to report: There are currently around 129,000 Germans living abroad who are eligible to vote. A nice increase compared to previous elections. Of course, the special conditions must also be taken into account here: Germans who are temporarily abroad are automatically entered in the electoral register, while those with permanent residence must submit an application.
In order to be able to take part in the federal election with certainty, all eligible voters should check their documents in good time and take all the necessary steps. No matter whether in Brandenburg an der Havel or abroad – every vote counts!
