The Federal Prosecutor's Office files charges against the dangerous hammer gang!
Eisenach, Deutschland - On June 12, 2025, the Federal Prosecutor's office raised charges against members of the so -called hammer gang, which is known for brutal raids and a militant left -wing extremist ideology. Among the defendants are Johann Guntermann, the alleged leader and Tobias Edelhoff, a close confidante of the group. The indictment includes serious allegations such as bodily harm, property damage and attempted murder. The group operated underground for years and had a far -reaching network, which recently moved into the light through arrests in Eisenach and Budapest. First indications of the structures of the hammer gang were already known in 2019 when several members were arrested in Eisenach.
The hammer gang is classified by the authorities as a criminal association, and there are discussions about a possible terrorist classification due to the severity of their actions and the international dimension, which is given by raids in Hungary. Maja, a non-binary person, was delivered, for example, in connection with raids in Budapest, which triggered legal controversy. The accused members have to answer to the Dresden Higher Regional Court and face prison terms of up to ten years, while the "foot people" have to expect two to five years.
Investigations and arrests
The investigation against the hammer gang ran over several years, often accompanied by allegations of sloppiness on the part of the responsible authorities. The accused crimes include several raids on the right-wing extremist persons in Wurzen, Leipzig, Dessau-Roßlau, Eisenach and Budapest. Two accused members are suspected of having been involved in an attack on the convicted neo -Nazi Leon R. in Eisenach and raids on right -wing extremists in Budapest, which took place in February 2023. One of these accused was sentenced to a three -year prison sentence in Budapest and has been in German pre -trial detention since December 2024.
Another suspect who came up with several other people in January is also associated with the raids in Budapest. In addition, a man was arrested in Berlin in October 2024 as a supporter of a neo-Nazi association and is suspected of being active as a "martial arts trainer" for the group. Johannes D., a former member of the hammer gang and key witness, stressed him in this context.
left -wing extremism and rising crimes
The left -wing extremist space in Germany shows worrying numbers. In 2024, a personal potential of 38,000 left -wing extremist persons was recorded, including 11,200 as violent. This group is able to commit serious acts of violence, which is reflected in an increase in left -wing extremist crimes to 5,857 offenses. These crimes accumulate, particularly in the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg and Saxony, which alerts the security authorities. The attacks are often directed against political opponents, especially against members of the Afd.
A review of the left violent crimes shows that 532 offenses were recorded in this area, which is a decline compared to the previous year. The most common acts are property damage that has increased by 36.6 %. The judiciary therefore faces the challenge of not only fighting the obviously criminal structures such as the hammer gang, but also to counteract the creeping, often less dangerous elements of the left -wing extremist spectrum.
Developments around the hammer gang and the left -wing extremism throw a shadow on social and political conditions in Germany. It remains to be seen how the legal decisions develop and what political measures are taken to counteract this problem.
