The focus: Exhibition in Dortmund u reveals creative secrets!

An exciting exhibition that deals with the concept of chaos in creative and artistic practice will soon open its doors in Dortmund U. The event is entitled "Fragile balance: chaos in focus" and takes place from June 13th to July 6, 2025. Admission to the exhibition is free. This interdisciplinary initiative is the result of a cooperation between students from the Technical University of Dortmund and the Folkwang University of the Arts.

under the direction of Felix Dobbert and Prof. Jana Müller, 21 students researched the topic of chaos for a semester. Central questions treated during the seminars are about: Where does chaos start, where does it stop? What role does chaos play in creative practice? And how is chaos experienced in different cultures? The photographs that are presented as part of the exhibition concern topics such as memories, childhood, inner emotions and political processes, whereby many works require an intensive discussion to recognize chaos.

The photographic works reflect the proximity of chaos and order systems and invite visitors to question their own perception. Chaos, often not immediately visible, require a deep job with the pictures to grasp the underlying ideas. It is remarkable that chaos is experienced differently in many cultures and often serves as an impetus for creative processes in artistic practice. This interactive discussion is enriched by additional events during the exhibition period, including an augmented reality experience and artist talk as part of the F2 photo festival.

The exhibition will open on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. The opening times during the festival are diverse and enable visitors to look at the photographs in a relaxed atmosphere. This interactivity and the dialogue between art and viewer are not only important in this exhibition, but also shape the entire artistic work.

The role of the artist is understood in this context as a kind of balancing act between order and chaos. An artist could be seen as someone who acts between two poles: the need for structure and the attraction of the unpredictable. Creative processes that are influenced by external stimuli and internal sensitivities develop in a area of ​​tension between these poles. So art is not only visible as a product, but as a reaction to internal imbalances and as a form of self -transformation.
