Cybercrime in Germany: record numbers and new dangers 2024!
The threat of cybercrime in Germany remains alarming, as the police crime statistics for 2024 shows. Over 131,000 cybercrime cases have been registered, including more than 200,000 abroad abroad that were carried out internationally. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt emphasizes that cyber attacks are a serious risk to business and society, while the boundaries between the financial and political motivation of the perpetrators are increasingly blurred.
In particular, DDOS campaigns and severe ransomware attacks have caused significant damage, with public institutions and strategically important companies being targeted. Measures of the Federal Criminal Police Office, among other things, the destruction of platforms such as DATT.CC and international cooperation have already had an effect: The number of ransomware attacks and ransom demands has decreased significantly compared to the previous year. Despite the challenges, the authorities see progress in the fight against cybercrime.
