German athletes shine: silver and bronze at international competitions!

Today is August 14, 2025, and the German athletes are putting in consistently impressive performances at the competition in Cologne. Particularly noteworthy is **Stefanie Megerle**, who won the silver medal in kickboxing in the weight class up to 70 kg. In the final, however, she had to admit defeat to the Hungarian **Andrea Busa** 4:6. Despite her disappointment with the judges' evaluation, coach **Sven Mager** praised her convincing performance and the hard work she put in.

There is also good news in other disciplines. **Roland Viczian** took fourth place in point fighting up to 63 kg. His defeat against **Borislav Radulov** from Bulgaria with 9:19 was not easy for him, but he is motivated for the upcoming World Championships and the World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe. **Larissa Gaiser** shines in speed skating with bronze in the points race over 5,000 meters, behind two strong Colombian athletes.

Canoe polo and Ultimate Frisbee on the rise

The German canoe polo teams are also in top form. The men qualified for the quarter-finals as group winners, defeating Great Britain 2-1 and China 13-0. The women took their chance to beat Iran 7-3 and will face Denmark in the quarterfinals. Another bright spot is the Ultimate Frisbee team, which qualified for the semi-finals after a thrilling win against Japan 13-9. Their development in the tournament is remarkable and shows that the efforts of the past few months are paying off.

However, there are also setbacks among athletes. In speed climbing, all five German participants failed in the individual qualification. While **Leander Carmanns** with 29th place and **Sebastian Lucke** in 20th place still showed respectable performances, the best German, **Julia Koch**, only came in 19th place. **Anna-Laethisia Schimek** and her colleagues in the dual time trial were unfortunately unable to make it to the semi-finals. **Fabian Holbach** finished the duathlon in twelfth place, 2:40 minutes behind the Belgian winner **Benjamin Choquert**.

For the athletes it will now be the last competitions to round off their performances. Team cohesion and support from trainers and supervisors are crucial in this intensive phase. All athletes deserve our respect for their commitment and dedication in these exciting competitions. And while the sports world looks to Cologne, the anticipation for the next encounters remains great.
